Where do I find the settings to customise the face?
They live in the phone app, not on the watch itself, which is the part most people miss. On your phone:
Garmin Connect IQ app › Device › My Watch Faces › (tap the face) › Settings
That screen is where the face is set up: your metric cells, the clock format, temperature units, and the battery style. If you go Pro, your Unlock code and Licence key are one level down, under Settings › Unlock (Pro). Changes reach the watch on the next sync, usually within a few seconds.
For WISPWARE – Paces, a data field, tap My Data Fields instead of My Watch Faces.
Two things worth knowing. The face has to be installed from the Connect IQ store to appear in that list. And if you have just updated a face, a brand new setting can show up blank until you restart the watch once; restart it and it fills in.
How do I update my watch face?
Open the Garmin Connect IQ app on your phone and tap the refresh/sync icon at the top right. If you don't see it there, tap Device at the lower right, then the refresh/sync icon at the top right.
Then tap My Watch Faces and choose your WISPWARE face. It should show Settings. If it shows Queued instead, the update has not reached the watch yet: repeat the steps above.
After an update, open any widget or app on your watch and come back to the watch face. That starts the new version.
For Paces, tap My Data Fields instead of My Watch Faces. The new version starts the next time you open Walk or Run.
How do I add Paces to my walk?
Setup, once: on the watch, open Walk (or Run), then Settings › Data Screens, add a screen with one field, and pick Paces from Connect IQ. Add it to each activity you want it in.
A metric shows two dashes instead of a number.
Two dashes mean the watch has no value to give us yet, not that the face is broken. We draw what Garmin reports, and a few metrics are only there once your watch has measured them.
The two that surprise people most are Pulse Ox and Resting HR, below. If a metric you expected stays blank for more than a day of normal wear, email us and we will look.
Pulse Ox is blank.
Pulse Ox is not measured continuously, and on most Garmin watches it is switched off by default because it costs battery. If it has never been turned on, there is nothing for the face to show.
On the watch, open Settings › Health & Wellness › Pulse Ox and choose sleep tracking or all day, or take a single spot reading from the Pulse Ox glance. Once a reading exists the face picks it up.
Resting HR is blank.
Resting heart rate comes from your Garmin profile, not from a live sensor reading. Garmin works it out from overnight wear, so a watch that is new, or that has not been worn through a night recently, may not have one yet.
The quickest check: look for a resting heart rate in Garmin Connect. If Connect does not show one either, the watch has simply not computed it yet and a night of wear usually fixes it. If Connect does show one and the face still says two dashes, that is ours to fix, so please tell us.
Why does my weekly distance start on the wrong day?
It follows your Garmin account, not the watch face. Open Garmin Connect on your phone and go to More › Settings › User Settings › First Day of the Week. The options are Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and the default is Sunday.
The face reads Garmin's own weekly total, so whatever you set there is the week it shows. If you think of your training week as Monday to Sunday, set it to Monday and the face will follow on the next sync.
How do I unlock Pro? (step by step)
Before you pay, get the unlock code from your phone first.
For Paces: use it in a walk once first, so the watch can make your code. In step 2, tap My Data Fields instead of My Watch Faces and select WISPWARE – Paces.
- Download the watch face from the Garmin Connect IQ store.
- In the Connect IQ app, tap Device at the bottom right, then My Watch Faces, and select your face (for example WISPWARE – Run MAX X1).
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Unlock (Pro).
- Write down or copy your Unlock code.
- Then pay here, pasting that code at checkout: Run MAX X1, Run Casual X1, Wellbeing X1 or Paces.
- Your licence key is shown on the page and also emailed to you. Copy it.
- Back in the Connect IQ app, go back to Unlock (Pro) from the steps above.
- Under Licence key, type or paste the key, then tap Enter.
- Tap Save straight away.
Where do I find my unlock code?
In the Garmin Connect IQ app on your phone, tap Device at the bottom right, then My Watch Faces, pick the face, then Settings, then Unlock (Pro). Your Unlock code is shown there: 8 characters, letters and numbers.
For Paces, tap My Data Fields instead of My Watch Faces. The code stays blank until Paces has run once, so open Walk (or Run) with Paces on a data screen first.
It is not your Garmin Unit ID, which is 10 digits and all numbers. That one identifies your watch to Garmin; ours identifies it to the face, and only the 8-character code produces a working key.
I entered my key and nothing happened.
Tap Save straight after typing the key. If you move to another screen first, even just to check what you typed, Garmin Connect throws the new text away and puts back whatever was saved before. Saving then stores the old value again. This is the most common reason a correct key looks like it did not work, and it is worst when you are fixing a typo: the wrong key comes back, you save it, and the status still says the key is not for this watch.
Check Licence status, just under the key field in the same Settings screen. If it says the key is not for this watch, the code used at checkout was not this watch's unlock code, which usually means a character was mistyped. Reply to your key email with the correct code and we will re-issue it free.
If it says nothing at all, the setting may need a moment to sync, and on a face you have just updated it can need one watch restart before it fills in.
On Paces it stays blank until Paces has run once in a walk or run.
I got a new watch. Do I have to buy it again?
No. The licence belongs to you; the key is tied to a watch. Email us the unlock code from the new watch and we will issue a fresh key at no charge.
Reinstalling on the same watch keeps your unlock, so you do not need to do anything after an update or a re-install.
Which face should I get?
Answer five quick questions in the face finder and it will point you to the face built for how you use your watch.
I own one of your running faces. Can I get the other for less?
Yes. Email legends.of.etma@gmail.com with your unlock code for the face you own, and the one you want, and we'll sort out a discount for you.
I bought Pro for one of your Venu X1 faces. Do I get anything?
Yes, as a thank you for being early supporters. Email legends.of.etma@gmail.com from the address you bought it with, and we'll send you a promo code for CA$1 off.
I lost my key.
Email legends.of.etma@gmail.com with your unlock code and we will send it straight back, free. Keys are deterministic, so the one you get is the same one you had.
Do I need an account?
No account, no app, no subscription, and no trial nag. You paste your unlock code at checkout, your key appears on the page immediately, and a copy is emailed as a backup. The face then works offline, permanently, on that watch.
Can I interact with Wisp?
Yes, and it is worth trying. Press and hold on Wisp and see what happens. Every WISPWARE face takes the press, and what Wisp does with it is not the same on every face, so try it on whichever one you wear.
Two things decide whether it works. The screen has to be awake, so raise your wrist first, and the press has to land on Wisp rather than anywhere on the face. A light tap does nothing: Garmin gives a watch face the press-and-hold only.
On Paces, a data field, Wisp does not take the press.
Why did my streak start again when I switched faces?
Each WISPWARE face counts its own streak, so a day spent on another face starts that face's streak again.
Is the free version crippled?
No. Every face is genuinely free at its core: the real metrics, the native look, the always-on display, and the companion. Pro adds depth rather than switching the face on. What each face includes at each tier is listed on its own page.
